The primary function of the Research Data Center of the Federal Statistical Office is to facilitate controlled access to official microdata. Oriented toward the needs of data users and in line with the legal requirements of data protection, the FDZ–Bund offers a broad spectrum of options for data users. Individual data from official statistics are available either in the form of standardized Scientific Use Files on CD-ROM or as custom-made Scientific Use Files that can be analyzed onsite as a guest researcher in Wiesbaden, Berlin, or Bonn. In addition, the FDZ–Bund produces Public Use Files and CAMPUS Files for use primarily as a resource for teaching in universities or for international data access. Finally, the Research Data Center provides access to microdata from official statistics by way of remote data access.
