„Developing the Research Data Infrastructure for the Social and Behavioral Sciences in Germany and Beyond: Progress s ince 2001, Current Situation, and Future Demands”
One of the RatSWD’s central goals is to provide policy makers (and data providers) expert advice in support of national and international- level decisions on the data infrastructure. For the RatSWD, this means, on the one hand, organizing dialogue within the social sciences and humanities. Given the inherent particularism of the scientific disciplines, the process of „identifying and agreeing on needs and criteria for prioritization„ as well as of developing a concept for coordinated data provision cannot be coordinated by science alone : here, the RatSWD takes on a coordination and leadership role. On the other hand, the political actors involved in national and international decision making processes need basic information on investments that need to be made in the informational infrastructure: here, the RatSWD provides a reliable and up-to-date overview of the general situation and the specific areas in which further work is required.

Analysemöglichkeiten mit dem Sozio-oekonomischen Panel (SOEP)
Dreiteiliger Workshop an der Universität Duisburg-Essen (UDE) 22. bis 26. September 2008
Viele sozialwissenschaftliche Forschungsfragen lassen sich nur mit Längsschnittdaten untersuchen. Da der Umgang mit entsprechenden Datensätzen und Analyseverfahren anspruchsvoll, in der universitären Methodenausbildung aber nicht überall fest verankert ist, findet vom 22.9. bis 26.9.2008 an der UDE ein Workshop zu den Analysemöglichkeiten des Sozio-oekonomischen Panels statt. Die Veranstaltung richtet sich an Doktoranden, Studierende und Nachwuchswissenschaftler aus den Fächern Soziologie, Ökonomie, Politikwissenschaft und Psychologie. Sie wird vom Rat für Sozial- und Wirtschaftsdaten finanziell gefördert und ist Teil der RatSWD-Nachwuchsworkshop-Reihe.
