Election Results announced for the 6th Appointment Period of the German Data Forum

Press Release, 09.02.2017

The election results were announced at the 7th Conference for Social and Economic Data (7|KSWD) on 8th February 2017 in Berlin: Four female and four male researchers were elected for the 6th appointment period of the German Data Forum (Rat für Sozial– und Wirtschaftsdaten, RatSWD); the list of appointees is now available online in German.

Female representatives of science and research for the 6th appointment period of the German Data Forum:
• Prof. Dr. Cordula Artelt
• Prof. Dr. Anja Göritz
• Prof. Dr. Monika Jungbauer-Gans
• Prof. Regina T. Riphahn, Ph.D.

Male representatives of science and research for the 6th appointment period of the German Data Forum:
• Prof. Dr. Thomas K. Bauer
• Prof. Dr. Michael Eid
• Prof. Dr. Stefan Liebig
• Prof. Dr. Kai Maaz

Eighteen candidates – researchers from 10 social and economic disciplines – were nominated for election by their respective academic organisations in accordance with the German Data Forum’s election procedure. Two free proposals were submitted with the support of a minimum of 10 researchers eligible to vote.

The appointment proposals were elected in a secret ballot of 3001 scientists and researchers, who had registered to vote ahead of the election. This is a 70% increase compared to the 5th appointment period (2014-2017). The high participation and turnout among the scientific community secures a high level of legitimacy of the German Data Forum’s future members and broad representation of academic disciplines.

The German Data Forum’s incumbent chairpersons, Prof. Dr. Regina T. Riphahn und Stefan Bender, wish to thank Mr. Eckart Hohmann (former President of the Hessian State Statistical Office) and Prof. Dr. Rockmann (Deputy Electoral Commissioner of Berlin, former President of the State Statistical Office Berlin-Brandenburg) for overseeing the election and all the candidates for their nomination.

The German Data Forum is an advisory council to the Federal Government, whose members are appointed by the Federal Ministry for Education and Research in consultation with the Federal Ministries. The German Data Forum consists of eight empirical scientists, who are appointed on the basis of the election results, and eight representatives of important data producers, who are appointed due to their official position.

The German Data Forum is an independent body of empirical researchers from universities, university-level institutions, and institutions of independent scientific research as well as representatives of important data producers. It was established by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research in 2004 with the goal of sustainably improving the research data infrastructure and its international competitiveness.
