High demand for research ethics review and support services among researchers

A survey of researchers conducted by the German Data Forum’s (RatSWD) Research Ethics Working Group revealed that there is a high demand across disciplines for the review of research projects by ethics committees and for support services. The results of the survey have now been published in a RatSWD working paper.

According to this, there is a need for support in setting up ethics committees where they do not yet exist. The researchers would also like templates and documents for the preparation of applications as well as information on review processes. Data protection aspects were also addressed, which need to be considered in addition to research ethics issues. More than 1,000 researchers from various status groups belonging to disciplines represented by the RatSWD took part in the survey in spring 2021.
